This single is both perfectly named and represents Honest Work’s debut EP ‘Another Broken Glass’, a set of songs that are never dull and pack a heavy punch.
London based alt-rock quartet Honest Work are hitting the scene with their debut EP ‘Another Broken Glass‘, out today. The five track project is packed with tactility and edge, thumping rhythms, and growling bass. Produced by Xavier Sinden, the EP was recorded by the band live to a vintage 70s tape machine at Peter Gabrielโs Real World Studios. You can feel the music in your bones while you listen, as if you were in the room with them.
Leading the project is their newest single ‘Energy‘, aptly named with its belting chorus. Itโs direct and biting, a little bit broody, and suffice to say โ full of energy. When asked about the track the band have said โEnergy is a song about being frustrated or stuck in a rut with romance. The repeated line โI get this feelingโ, is used to represent the feeling of going nowhere, just the same thing over and over and over.โ The final guitar solo makes you wish you were in a mosh pit, hearing it live and shouting the lyrics back to them.
While the EP is pensive throughout, itโs never dull or sullen. Rather, it packs a heavy punch. From production to performance, there seems to be a real emphasis on the liveness of the project. Tracked on old school analogue kit, the echoing guitar riffs, immense vocals from Tom Simpkins and Curtis Connor, it all collides together to create a sound that feels full. You just want to see them play a set.
Honest Work are going on a UK tour this winter, and I highly recommend you buy a ticket. If you canโt do that however, ‘Another Broken Glass‘ is almost as good as the real thing. Listen to the EP now!
