Iโ€™m a journalist from the North East currently exiled in Leeds. You can find me playing bass in the band โ€˜Hardwareโ€™ and having pints at the brude. Haโ€™way the Lads.

Manchester band Westside Cowboy prove themselves as ones to watch with their second single ‘Alright Alright Alright’ from upcoming debut EP

Westside Cowboy are keeping outlaw country alive in their own Manchester way. With a cheeky nod towards Johnny Cash with the opening line โ€œSince I was a young boy, my mother told me, son, donโ€™t ever run around and donโ€™t you play with gunsโ€. โ€˜Alright Alright Alrightโ€™ differs from Cash in many ways, but they share an ability for a simple but effective hook.

A consciously retro vibe is reflected throughout their aesthetic, with a fondness for vintage amps and pedals. Visceral guitars and pulse-pounding drums seem to be back in vogue and this song is a shining example of the trend. As a fun slice of fuzz pop, with no pretence toward anything more, it is a song born to be played live and loud.

โ€˜Alright, Alright, Alrightโ€™ is Westside Cowboyโ€™s second single with their debut EP coming out on August 8th, produced by English Teacherโ€™s Lewis Whiting. The EP comes off the back of some impressive support slots including English Teacher, Ezra Furman and an upcoming tour with Blondshell. For a band only on their second single, Westside Cowboyโ€™s rise is something to behold.
