London’s least professional music photographer and journalist, can be found most evenings in your local small venue drinking vodka lemonades and being told secrets.

Last week, Ellie Bleach released her newest gut-wrenchingly beautiful heartbreak track ‘I Thought I Saw You Last’.  An anti-love story about an ex getting married a bit too fast, Ellie Bleach sings about an exโ€™s relatives and friends and I can’t help but be reminded of Taylor Swiftโ€™s ‘Speak Now’, although Bleachโ€™s rendition is somehow unmistakably British and speaks of mid-20s lost love.

Ellie Bleach says the track was inspired by ABBAโ€™s sombre side โ€œthe line in the chorus โ€˜never thought I major chord could make me want to dieโ€™ was written on a notes file in my phone after listening to ABBAโ€™s โ€˜If It Wasnโ€™t For The Nightsโ€™ one too many times – That says it all.โ€

The track has an unmistakable 70โ€™s power-pop groove, itโ€™s one of those songs where you canโ€™t decide whether cry your eyes out or get up and dance. ‘I Thought I Saw You Last Night’ twangs on a heartstring or two with the listener thinking back along with Ellie Bleach reflecting on oneโ€™s ex-lovers. Thereโ€™s a sense of jealousy and hatred but those feelings are combated by the little bit of love left with Bleach asking โ€œDo you still think about us?โ€ which everyone can relate to Iโ€™m sure.

Ultimately this track is a new direction for Ellie Bleach and I think itโ€™s the perfect song to reflect the times, all of us are spending vast amounts of time fantasising about ridiculously dramatic scenarios. ‘I Thought I Saw You Last Night’ is your perfect companion for these fictional vacations into Ellieโ€™s smoky, sensational universe.
