Ezra Furman announces her new album ‘Goodbye Small Head,’ out on 16th May alongside new single ‘Grand Mal’

Ezra Furman has announced that her tenth studio album ‘Goodbye Small Head’ is due for release on 16th May via Bella Union. To accompany the announcement, Furman shared the album’s first single, ‘Grand Mal’, alongside a video directed by Eleanor Petry.

‘Goodbye Small Head’ will come as the latest addition to her genre-hopping discography, which spans from the raw rock’n’roll of 2008’s ‘Inside the Human Body’ to the cinematic yet strikingly intimate 2022 album ‘All of Us Flames’

Ever a master of juxtaposition, in Grand MalFurman evokes a tangible warmth, created by rich string arrangements and expansive, woody pianos, but not without pitting it against a persistent sense of unsteadiness. Describing the album’s origins, she said, “There [comes] a time when a woman is left alone in a room to unravel,” and perhaps this captures the essence of the single’s sound: the sound of breakdown, only just contained by its surrounding walls.

‘Goodbye Small Head’ is out on the 16th May via Bella Union and is available for pre-order here.
