Bristol quintet Wakey Wakey Rise And Shine share new single from upcoming sophomore EP ‘Rear Meat’

Wakey Wakey Rise & Shine’s new single โ€˜Thereโ€™s Less Trouble When You Stay At Homeโ€™, from their upcoming sophomore EP, โ€™Rear Meatโ€™, out on April 4th, emboldens, encourages and challenges.

Bristol based psychedelic/post-punk outfit Wakey Wakey Rise & Shine embark on their most ambitious project yet – โ€˜Rear Meatโ€™: a four-track EP that exquisitely weaves the bands renowned satire and facetiousness in a cacophony of genre-bending sound. Their latest single โ€˜Thereโ€™s Less Trouble When You Stay At Homeโ€™ challenges authority by asking the appropriate questions of those who are supposed to supposedly, โ€œlook after usโ€ and mitigate โ€œtroubleโ€.

The song starts with the title repeating, increasing in pitch and tempo, transporting the listener into the confusion of being told differing things by people in charge, whilst the distinctive guitar riff and backing vocals effortlessly establish the verse, hooking you in.

Frontman Smudge was inspired by the fissures that are so often found in systems and namely his “last and final interaction with the police” and how โ€œwhen the investigator called me by the name of the person who assaulted me, it became clear how broken the system really is.โ€ The more you listen to this track, the more you discover –  like the very act of questioning authoritarian systems – the deeper you dive the more eye-opening are the finds.

Recorded in the basement of Bristol’s iconic Louisiana, this single exudes authenticity. We, as the listeners, are guided through a medley of genres spanning from post-punk, to new-wave, to alt-rock and many more! The volta of the song is energetic, effective and most importantly full of pent up expression, encapsulating the bands feelings of being frustrated and fed-up at the system.

New EP ‘Rear Meat’ is out on 4th April via Velvet Echoes
