Yard Act wow with emotionally turbulent, danceable track ‘Petroleum’ ahead of their second LP ‘Where’s My Utopia?’

Following the album’s lead single ‘Dream Job’ comes Yard Act’s latest release Petroleumand it’s a change in both pace and tone for the band. What starts out with low and deep vocals creating an eerie atmosphere soon grows into an erratic song, jam-packed with sounds. Starting out like The Smiths and ending somewhere closer to The Prodigy, this track takes you on a real journey of twists and turns, leaving you dancing and wanting more.

Petroleumwas born out of touring and the testing times that came along with it as Yard Act’s James Smith lost it with a crowd in Bognor Regis. He said: “I told them I was bored and I didn’t want to be there. Me and Ryan had a row after, and Ryan rightly dressed me down for the way I acted. It got me pondering the idea that, now this is a job, what are the requirements of it? People think they want honesty, but they don’t, they want me to portray the version of honesty that they’ve paid to see and that’s part of the illusion.”

Taking a giant leap into a bold and playful sound, the band have created a rich palette alongside lyrics that go deeper beyond the surface than ever before. The song continues to grow until it comes alive and practicality forces you to dance – you can only imagine the live spectacle that will accompany their performance of it. Lucky for you, they’ll be taking their upcoming album on a headline tour, across the globe, starting this December.
