I’m a London-based music photographer and occasional writer and I love documenting gigs and people enjoying them. Having just moved back to London from Scotland, where I first started shooting concerts, I’m looking forward to exploring what the scene down south has to offer with CLUNK! From new acts to festivals, I love what clunk champions and I can’t wait to get started.
Celebrating last year’s album, Hamish Hawk’s Sunday night performance in London at KOKO was as grand as it was gritty
The release of ‘A Firmer Hand‘ last August provided fans with an intense, more personal angle to Hawk’s melodic wit alongside his signature theatrical flair that was deftly replicated on stage. A fast-paced show, the band kept the pace rolling through Hawk’s hefty discography. Newly joined by Lizzie Reid on bass, Andy Pearson, Stefan Maurice, Olliver Brown and John Cashman displayed their cohesive, driving force behind the punchy vocals.
Opening with ‘A Firmer Hand‘ favourites ‘Big Cat Tattoos’ and ‘Juliet As Epithet’, they followed through to earlier, poppier classics ‘The Mauritian Badminton Doubles Champion, 1973’ and ‘Think Of Us Kissing’. Ending with a rendition of The Rolling Stones‘ ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’, the KOKO crowd danced and sang along with the enigmatic frontman.
From the dedicated fanbase that knew every intricate, poignant phrase of the set, the cheers were loudest when Hawk paused and gazed in awe around and up at the gilded rafters. Continuing to solidify himself as one of Scotland’s most exciting artists and work his way through larger venues by the month, it’s clear Hamish Hawk has a firm hand on success.
