London lo-fi post-punk band heavy wild take centre stage at The Victoria, Dalston, debuting their latest single ‘Destroy The End’

With supports Be Civil and Alphabet laying the groundwork, the evening at Dalston’s Victoria culminated in a sublime blend of introspective post-punk, melodic indie rock and ethereal shoegaze melancholia. It was a momentous night of firsts, with both openers teasing the crowd with their respective to-be-released singles and hot-off the-press EPs.

As the crowd steadily grows and huddles in anticipation, our headliners coolly take to the stage at around the 10:10pm mark. Upon first glance, there’s a unifying composure amongst the band, but listen closely and you’ll find there’s something rather tender lying dormant just beneath the exterior.

There’s a quiet assuredness to heavy wild’s essence, striking a delicate balance between both romance and gloom, nostalgia and catharsis.

As the opening notes of ‘Dope Gods’ course through the room, there’s a euphoric dreaminess to the track, closely accompanied by a palpable sense of longing. With the band’s signature distorted vocals and fuzzed synths collaborating in tandem, there’s an unbridled air of optimism that permeates the crowd— it’s raw, it’s  earnest and it’s utterly captivating.

Despite a couple of technical hitches, their  momentum refuses to waver, and as frontman Wolfgang Harte’s vocals soar throughout the room one last time, the band debuts their latest single ‘Destroy The  End’: a dizzyingly bittersweet send-off, with the track’s joyous spirit lingering on as the crowd filters back out into the brisk winter air.

The band are currently gearing up for their next run of intimate UK winter shows, kicking off in Norwich on the 27th of January at the beloved Voodoo Daddy’s Showroom. Buy tickets here.
