‘I Like You’ is the final single to come from Cardinals’ highly anticipated debut album ‘Masquerade’, out 13th Feb on So Young Records.
The band calls ‘I Like You’ a romantic, accordion-led song and a cathartic, grounding moment for them. And although this is the final single release before the album, ‘I like You’ seems to be a starting point for the band
‘I Like You’ combines the vulnerable softness of Euan Manning’s voice with a sweet swaying accordion accompaniment, making it feel like a live track, it plonks you in a tent at a festival, pint swishing and spilling as you discover your favourite new band. The song builds around the prominent accordion, whilst progressing into the punchy crunchy stop start guitars and drums. I’m getting Conor Oberst leanings in Manning’s quivering delivery, a singer with a story to tell and the perfect rock & roll voice to tell it.
4 minutes of tender, eloquent indie rock & roll blues. If this is what the album has to offer, I want more.
