I’m Evan, a 19 year old concert photographer based and raised in Glasgow. Being from Glasgow, I’ve always been around music from a young age, either going to concerts with my parents as young as 5 or playing a variety of instruments throughout my childhood. Photography has also been a passion for many years and to combine both together and music has been nothing but great.

Mac DeMarco returns to Glasgow, delivering a career-spanning and career-defining set to an adoring Barrowland Ballroom crowd

Mac DeMarco in the infamous Barrowland Ballroom was easily the best gig of my life. It’s not often I leave a gig where I am questioning myself that I’ve just been there. This night was one of those nights.

Tex Crick was on support duties for both sold out Barrowlands shows. With an incredible voice and calming stage presence, Tex’s performance was a great way to start the night. Mac opened his 29-song set with ‘For the First Time,’ ‘Shining’ and ‘On The Level.’ His set was well balanced, covering his vast discography covering albums all the way from ‘Rock and Roll Nightclub’ to ‘One Wayne G’.

DeMarco read the room perfectly, checking in on the crowd to find out what vibe they were feeling next. My personal highlights from the set were,‘No Other Heart’ (Performed with Mac’s photographer Yuki), ‘Ode to Viceroy’ and ‘My Kind of Woman’. Another easy highlight of the night came towards the end.

During ‘Freaking out the Neighborhood,’ Mac paused, told the packed Barrowlands to get down, and waited until everyone was on the floor before springing back up into the iconic riff. DeMarco closed out the night with a cover of Michael Jackson’s ‘Human Nature.’

This for me was easily the most euphoric concert I’ve ever been to. After being a fan of Mac’s for many many years, and seeing him several times, this show topped it all. I even had the pleasure of meeting and speaking to him after the show. I hope to see Mac back in Scotland very soon.
