The Irish-Australian singer-songwriter is here to welcome you into her beautiful, yet unique world with her new single ‘Begin’
Rosalind Anketell is one of those artists that simply knows how to keep any listener engaged. Regardless of whether itโs the emotive and cinematic writing or the high quality production on any track, she is here to stay.
The queer artist and comedian, who is now based in Amsterdam, uses the new track โBeginโ to show off her beautiful storytelling. From the perceptive lyricism to the talented artist’s expressive voice, the new offering marks an exciting new folk/pop chapter for Anketell’s sound.
Rosalind has all kinds of inspiration: American folk music to Portuguese fado, as well as musicians, such as Maggie Rogers, Lorde, and Hozier. These inspirations and her unique sound blend into a soothing, and delightful cocktail, that has ingredients of mystery and shock at the same time.
Speaking on her brand-new offering, Rosalind says: โโBeginโ is a song about loneliness warring with pure possibility. It’s that moment when you reach a new understanding of your inner world, and you’re ready to invite someone in. It’s both beautiful and terrifying.
I wrote โbeginโ in 2020, during Melbourne’s never-ending Covid-19 lockdown. I was back in my hometown caring for my mother throughout an illness and was feeling pretty isolated. I had just come out, and this overwhelming feeling of freedom and potential for connection was stymied by the fact we all had to stay locked inside. This song is moody, but also impatient and passionate.โ
