Up-and-coming indie-pop artist Ellur begins 2025 on a high with the release of her sophomore EP, ‘God Help Me Now’. Consisting of four tracks, the EP is a strikingly honest outpouring of emotion, capturing the essence of Ellur’s recent experiences with relationships, anxiety and growing up.

The EP’s title track, ‘God Help Me Now’ is an anthemic tune which lyrically echoes artists like Sam Fender. With her beautifully soft and melancholic vocals, Ellur exposes the worst sides of a generation; painting a picture which is shrouded in detachment and ever-decreasing empathy.

This track is a candid and desperate call for connection, confessing that “I’d die to find / A simple place / Where you tell me your mistakes and I love you anyway.”

‘Your Dog’ is the second track of this EP, and the lyrics read like a cathartic purging of painful past experiences. With clever Phoebe Bridgers-esque metaphors and catchy guitar riffs, Ellur makes sense of a previous relationship which involved power imbalances and a loss of innocence.

The most light-hearted track on the EP is undoubtedly ‘Yellow Light’, despite it exploring the sombre topic of emotional discomfort and indecisiveness. With cheery, upbeat guitars and a catchy melody, this song showcases Ellur’s incredible potential in the indie music scene.

The EP ends with ‘Mourning Song’, a melancholic folky acoustic track about someone you love turning into someone you don’t recognise anymore. It is packed to the brim with heartbreaking lyrics that you can’t help but wallow in– “I have to force myself to watch you / Turn into someone else / I mourn you”.

The release of ‘God Help Me Now’ has been a coming-of-age for Yorkshire-based Ella McNamara. She has been making music for years and with each release refining her sound. In the past year, Ellur has seemed to have arrived at a destination she is happy to be at, having described these songs as a demonstration of how she has always wanted her music to feel and sound.

2025 continues to be an exciting year for Ellur with many festival slots lined up and a support slot for the Kaiser Chiefs show in May.
