Fledgling instrumental artist Soft As Hell impresses with latest single ‘I’d Rather Fly’

As of late, there has been a wave of instrumentation focused artists, bringing forward their music prowess, it’s what I would call ‘vibe’ music. It captures a spirit, a time, a motion, it’s utterly wonderful. Artists such as Yin Yin, Ghost Funk Orchestra, and of course khruangbin have become staples of this wonderful genre. Today however, we are excited to talk about Soft As Hell, who come splashing out of the shores of Brighton, a city known for its live music.

The latest cut from this fledgling project ‘I’d Rather Fly’ is a five minute jaunt through a musical expanse. Boasting an array of groove-laden guitar, synths, and tight percussion from Jamie-Ray Scarratt of Raygun Studios, which really neatly ties a bow on this musical journey. There’s a real cinematic feel to it, particularly a Western vibe that is a constant throughout the single. You can almost imagine it in a Sergio Leone film. To call this single layered would be an understatement as with every listen something new is heard, in fact, there is so much crammed into 5 minutes but never does it feel overwhelming or indulgent. The expert key shifts keep the songs momentum whilst allowing for slight shifts in sound. Truly masterful work.

This is an incredibly exciting release from Soft As Hell and one that has us foaming at the mouth for the next hit of groovy goodness.
