Big Thief continue the build up for their upcoming studio album, ‘Double Infinity‘, with double single releases ‘Grandmother’ and ‘Los Angeles’
Though newly a trio, with founding bassist Max Oleartchik leaving the group last year, Big Thief show no signs of slowing down with these two beauties alongside the other tracks already released from the record, ‘All Night All Day’ and the lead single ‘Incomprehensible’.
‘Grandmother’ is the first track the trio wrote altogether, featuring legendary multi-instrumentalist Laraaji, consisting of Adrianne Lenker treading waters of familial bonds and generational love and pain. A powerful six-minute musical masterpiece carrying with it a unique sound musically as the unmistakable vocals of Lenker and Laraaji combine for a truly transcendent track.
‘Los Angeles’, on the other hand, is a classic love song done in a way only Big Thief could do so. The track is a gorgeous piece written about former lovers becoming present friends. Lenker sings “I’ll follow you forever / Even without looking /You call we come together” – an ode to everlasting love, showing that it may be reshaped over time, yet it will always remain for the right people.
Next month, the band’s much-awaited sixth record ‘Double Infinity’ will be freed into the world. And with four of its nine tracks now released, we already know we’re in for a treat.
‘Double Infinity’ is set to be toured around North America later this year – we’re all quietly, or loudly, hoping to see it toured across Europe also.
New album ‘Double Infinity’ is out on 5th September via 4AD.
