Hotel Lux release new single ‘Costermonger’ from their highly anticipated self-produced album, ‘The Bitter Cup’

As a band who is never shy to speak on social commentary and criticism, Hotel Lux‘s new single ‘Costermongerstands strong as a musical translation of a BBC documentary detailing the rise and fall of Deptford Market and the surrounding council housing.

It’s an anthem for a new generation with a tale as old as time, as the band describes the history of Deptford Street and how the influence of propaganda has ruined generations of family history by knocking down council housing blocks. Hotel Lux share the lyrics: “are as relevant now as they wouldโ€™ve been back in โ€˜67 when Lewisham council first started pulling down the council housing.” ‘Costermongeris a raw critique of gentrification that displaces local communities, hammering down the title of the song derived from the Cockney word ‘market trader’. The new single is paired with a music video that features the local shops and markets on the high street, directed by Dillon Home and Alex Wylie.

Upon the release of ‘Costermonger‘, Hotel Lux announce the release date for their completely self-produced album, The Bitter Cup‘, due to release on October 31st. Recorded at Big Jelly Studios, the South London band felt it was absolutely necessary to self-produce their new album.
