Download Festival booker Andy Copping has confirmed that the Donington Park rock institution is set to sell out for the first time in its history.
Celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2023, Download Festival has expanded to four days with Metallica headlining the Thursday and Saturday, Bring Me The Horizon topping the bill on the Friday and Slipknot bringing the rock extravaganza to a close on the Sunday.
All weekend tickets and Saturday tickets to Download Festival’s 90,000 capacity event are already completely sold out, and Andy Copping says the final remaining day tickets will go in next few days.
“We’ve done some big numbers in the past,” Copping exclusively told Variety. “But this one has been a complete other level. The festival running for 20 years and hitting that landmark sell-out figure is incredible.”
Copping said that the demand for tickets was already high before the first line-up announcement in November.

“We saw this huge uptake in early bird tickets –and when I say huge, I mean huge,” he said. “We ended up doing 35,000 before we’d even announced a band – that’s unheard of. Normally, on a very good year, we’d do 4,000 early birds.”
Metallica will play two headline sets at Download Festival 2023 with each performance featuring a completely different setlist.
Copping told Variety he wouldn’t rule out doing this with another headline band, saying: “There is a finite amount of bands that you could do it with, but I’d certainly look at it again in the future, probably when there is something special going on around the festival.”
He also insisted that rock music is in an extremely healthy place despite the naysayers, explaining: “Rock has never died. Sometimes it’s been more popular than others but, over the years, we’ve seen amazing sales. And, right now, there’s no question we are in a purple period for rock music.”
Other bands taking to the hallowed turf of Donington Park on the weekend of Thursday 8t to Sunday 11th June include Alter Bridge, Halestorm, Clutch, Mammoth WVH, Ghost, Within Temptation, Placebo, Disturbed, Evanescence, Parkway Drive, Pendulum, Architects, Bad Wolves, Neck Deep, Simple Plan, Empire State Bastard and many more.
You can get the final tickets from the Download Festival website.
