Back after a four year hiatus the Southern Californian punk outfit Fidlar return in glorious style

FIDLAR are back. It’s been a long four years but the boys are truly back. At the beginning of the year the band released ‘FSU’, ‘Sand On The Beach’, ‘Taste The Money’, and now ‘Centipede’, all taken from their forthcoming ‘That’s Life’ EP. The band are back to their old tricks with their frantic, jagged edged, raw surf-punk sound but with a more mature outlook on songwriting.

We are invited back into the bands life who are known for singing about their struggles with mental health, alcohol and drugs, except this time it’s coming from the position of being sober looking in.

‘That’s Life’ was written when the band went on a trip, figuratively and literally. Powered by psychedelics and caravanning with friends throughout the West and East Coasts, Mexico, Hawaii and beyond, Carper’s lyrics for the EP poured out during a DMT ceremony in Lake Powell; lyrics that realise there is no heal-all enlightenment, and there are no answers. There is, however, an exuberance in sharing real human connections – both good and bad – and a sense of peace in shouting “fuck it” when faced with the immutable chaos of life.

The band teamed up with recording mastermind Dave Sardy (Spoon, LCD Soundsystem, Red Hot Chili Peppers) to record the EP at the famed Shangri-La in Malibu, CA. It’s FIDLAR at their best, it’s simple yet powerful, loud and feral, whilst carrying itself more confidently than ever before. This is an exciting chapter for the band.

The latest single ‘Centipede’ sees the band blend elements of pop-punk and grunge into their beautiful sound, making for something that pushes you to jump around and dance whilst tackling the minutiae of certain relationships.
